Kessell's perfect pitching lifts Kailua

Courtney Kessell pitched a perfect game as Kailua defeated Kaimuki, 8-0, yesterday in an O'ahu Interscholastic Association Red Division softball game at the Kaimuki High field.
Kessell, who struck out 12, also drove in a run.

Waipahu 14, Radford 0: Tina Noga pitched a one-hitter with 13 strikeouts and batted 2 for 4, including a home run, to lead Waipahu.
Farrington 16, McKinley 15: Krista Meija's two-run double capped Farrington's six-run rally in the bottom of the seventh. Ashley Vega hit a grand slam and drove in seven runs for McKinley.
Kahuku 5, Kaiser 4: Raye Correa, who batted 4 for 4 with three RBIs, capped Kahuku's two-run seventh inning with an RBI single.
'Aiea 8, Kalani 0: Krystal Patterson pitched a three-hitter for 'Aiea, which scored seven runs in the first inning.
Campbell 12, Nanakuli 2: Cindy Moefu had three hits and two RBIs to carry Campbell, which scored nine runs in the second to erase a 1-0 deficit.
Mililani 13, Wai'anae 1: Dana Lee had three hits and four RBIs, and Casey Sugihara homered to power Mililani.

Moanalua 5, Castle 4: Britni Ronolo homered and doubled, and Moanalua scored three runs in the bottom of the sixth Friday night.
Kamehameha 14, University 0: Noe Esperas pitched a no-hitter with eight strikeouts, and Dara Pagaduan hit a grand slam to spur Kamehameha to an Interscholastic League of Honolulu victory.

St. Francis 7, Maryknoll 0: Sasha Koki and Brittney Akana teamed on a one-hitter, and Anita Manuma had three hits and two RBIs to spark St. Francis.
BASKETBALL
BYUH rolls through St. Thomas Aquinas
Austin Smylie scored 21 of his career-high 28 points in the first half as host Brigham Young-Hawai'i trounced St. Thomas Aquinas, 90-70, last night.
The Seasiders (5-1) took a 16-point halftime lead and never looked back in beating the Spartans (4-4), from New York, at Cannon Activities Center in La'ie.
Robert Epps scored 25 points for St. Thomas Aquinas.
UH-Hilo topples Westminster College
Skip Esene scored 30 points to lead three teammates in double figures, and host Hawai'i-Hilo thumped Westminster College, 87-70, last night.
The Vulcans (7-1) raced to a 42-31 halftime lead and pulled away in the second half to beat the Titans (2-7), from Missouri, on the final day of the AmeriSport Coconut Coast Classic at Kekua'okalani Gym in Kailua, Kona.
James Pitt led Westminster with 12 points.
SURFING
Poor conditions postpone Pipeline
The Rip Curl Pro Pipeline Masters surfing contest was postponed yesterday because the waves were too unruly at the Banzai Pipeline.
Conditions are expected to improve today, so the final day of the competition could run.
Five Hawai'i surfers are among the 16 still in contention: Sunny Garcia, Bruce Irons, Kalani Robb, Pancho Sullivan and Jamie O'Brien.
