H1 accident kills one

An early afternoon accident has slowed traffic on the H1 freeway west-bound to a crawl. A three to five car accident at the Waimalu off-ramp killed one person and injured several. All west-bound traffic is being squeezed into one lane. Officers are still at the scene.

Mililani woman alleged car thief

Police yesterday arrested an 18-year-old Mililani woman on suspicion of car theft.

The car's owner, a Honolulu woman, drove the car to a Wai'anae area beach park and discovered it was missing when she returned from the beach, police said.

Patrol officers later found a car matching the stolen car's description parked in a handicapped parking stall and checked the car's license plate number.

After confirming the car was the one that had been reported stolen, officers waited and watched as a woman got into the car and began to drive away. Police ordered the woman to pull over and arrested her on suspicion of car theft.

She was later released without charges pending further investigation.
