KARL WISSMAN has been promoted to president and chief operating officer of Star Markets. He was previously vice president and chief operating officer. He will be responsible for management of all company operations — including marketing, administration and store operations. The chain has 10 stores, on O'ahu, Maui and Kaua'i. Before joining Star, Wissman ran the Northern Division of Ralphs Grocery Co. and has held executive level positions with several other national grocery chains.

• The HAWAII STATE BAR ASSOCIATION has announced newly elected officers of its board of directors. Attorney RICHARD TURBIN was selected president for a one-year term that begins Jan. 1. He is founder and president of the Law Offices of Richard Turbin, specializing in personal injury, wrongful death and malpractice cases.

Other officers include WAYNE D. PARSONS, vice president/president-elect, of the Law Offices of Wayne D. Parsons; MARGARET K. MASUNAGA, treasurer, of the Big Island Office of Corporation Counsel; and JODI L. KIMURA YI, secretary, of Ayabe Chong Nishimoto Sia and Nakamura.

The state bar association is an advocacy group for about 6,000 practicing attorneys and judges in the state.

KU'ULEI WILLIAMS has been named office manager of Aloha Harvest, the O'ahu nonprofit agency that works with hotels, restaurants and food distributors to provide food to the needy. She will be responsible for office operations, payroll, accounts payable and receivables, and scheduling for pick-up and delivery of food. Before joining Aloha Harvest, Williams served with Alu Like in various capacities.

STACY POPE has been promoted from account coordinator to assistant account executive for Bright Light Marketing Group. Before joining the public relations and marketing communications firm, Pope was copy editor for Macy's corporate headquarters, direct mail division, San Francisco. The O'ahu native was responsible for writing and editing advertising copy for Macy's Western and Hawai'i markets.

• KATHY "KATHY D." DZIEDZIC has been named director of sales and marketing for The Kapalua Bay Hotel as the Maui resort repositions itself under the Renaissance Resort brand. Dziedzic, a 24-year industry veteran, was previously marketing manager at the Wailea Marriott. In her newly created position, she will be responsible for domestic and local leisure sales and overseeing the property sales team. Dziedzic will also oversee advertising and public relations. Marriott International was awarded management of the 210-room hotel last month and reflagged it a Renaissance Resort. Dziedzic has also worked for Outrigger Hotels & Resorts, Aston Hotels & Resorts, and the Kea Lani.

RODNEY ITO, general manager of the 545-room Waikoloa Beach Marriott on Maui since 2003, has relocated back to Honolulu to become director of operations at the Waikiki Beach Marriott Resort and Spa in Waikiki. He will help oversee operations of the 1,310-room hotel and supervise department heads from several departments, including front office, housekeeping, food and beverage, and events. He replaces ROBERT STARK, who was promoted general manager of the Singapore Marriott Hotel. Ito has also held management positions at Hilton Hotels in California, Alaska, Oregon and Hawai'i.

• Twenty-year sales veteran DARBY COLLADO has been hired by the moving company M. Dyer & Sons as a moving consultant, working with residential, commercial and military customers. Besides residential, household and office moves, the company provides vehicle and file storage and records management.
