ISLAND LIFE SHORTS
Stay sane this week

Advertiser Staff

With Christmas just five days away, the folks at livingonadime.com offer advice on how to manage the time crunch:

• Instead of trying to do everything and driving yourself crazy, focus your energy on a couple of things that are the most important to you. For example, rather than decorating your entire home, concentrate on the tree.

• One or two events — like a Christmas party and holiday play — can be a lot of fun, but too many activities this week can be overwhelming.

Hold the grease

Grease clogs can cause sewage spills that eventually run into the ocean. The Honolulu Department of Environmental Services asks:

• Never dump oil or grease down the drain.

• Absorb grease and oil with paper towels or newspaper, place in a container, and put it in the trash.

• Minimize the use of your garbage disposal. Grinding fatty foods contributes to sewer blockages.

Seeking Good Deeds

With the new year approaching, we're looking to inspire readers with real-life stories about major acts of kindness.

Maybe a stranger did something amazing. Perhaps a friend pitched in when you needed it most. Or maybe you know of a colleague who quietly did a good deed. What's the nicest thing anyone has ever done for you or someone you know?

If you have a story to tell, please reach Zenaida Serrano at zserrano@honoluluadvertiser.com. Include your name and phone number.
