Pacific LightNet buys Kona firm

Honolulu-based Pacific LightNet Communications yesterday said it acquired Turquoise Technologies of Kailua, Kona, for an undisclosed price.
Pacific LightNet said the acquisition expands its wireless service on the Big Island. Turquoise is an Internet service provider offering digital subscriber lines, Web hosting and wireless broadband Internet service.
Time Warner Telecom yesterday said it received contracts to provide six high-speed, fiber-network connections serving Hawai'i military locations.
The 20-year contracts from the Department of Defense total $12 million. The military is leasing the fiber-optic connections to deliver communications services such as voice, data and Internet access.
Hickam Air Force Base, Fort Shafter and Camp Smith are among the six O'ahu locations that will use the Time Warner Telecom network.
