'Simpsons' release is a no-'Doh!' gift

Attention, last-minute shoppers: A purchase of one or more of the week's new DVD releases will almost certainly ensure against gift duplication this weekend. That is unless you have a hard-core Simpsonite on your list who may be first in line for "The Simpsons — The Complete Fifth Season" (Fox), 22 more episodes of the ongoing saga of our times, complete with commentaries on every single show and deleted scenes. And then there's my favorite option, which is watching Homer go nuts in French.

Far-out finale

The excellent DVD expedition of "Star Trek Voyager" wraps up with "The Complete Seventh Season" (Paramount), with Capt. Kathryn Janeway (Kate Mulgrew) leading the crew on its final mission and all the way home in the two-part series finale, "Endgame." Five production documentaries are included, one of which documents the filming of the last shows.

Sundance gem

The 2004 Sundance film festival produced an unusual number of theatrical hits this year, but none may have been more surprising than "Napoleon Dynamite" (Fox), a deadpan comedy about the misadventures of the title geek (Jon Heder), who is a high school kid from Preston, Idaho, with a Brillo pad of red hair and the delusion of some sort of normality.
