WORKSHOP

Join 'Mr. Narcissus' for lesson on Chinese New Year displays

"Mr. Narcissus" is sharpening his snippers.

Honolulu architect Gilman Hu, aka Mr. Narcissus, each year teaches a popular (and usually sold out) series of workshops in the time-honored art of cultivating crab-claw narcissus flowers for Chinese New Year displays. Sponsored by the Honolulu Academy of Arts, the five-week Saturday classes begin Jan. 8, with both morning and afternoon sections in the Academy Art Center, for both beginners and advanced students. Fee: $35 first-time, $25 returning. Information: 532-8742. The annual narcissus exhibition is Feb. 12 and 13 in the Academy courtyard.
