Leilani Petranek, author of The Spirit of Hula, will sign books 3-5 p.m. tomorrow at Princeville Hotel, Kaua'i. Fran Dieudonne, author of This Old Broom Road, Tahiti, an anthology of pieces by women authors, signs books from 3-4 p.m. next Jan. 2, Barnes & Noble, Kahala Mall. Proceeds from book sales benefit the Susanna Wesley Community Center in Kalihi. Kumu Kahua Theatre and University of Hawai'i Manoa Theatre Department, co-sponsors of an original playwriting contest with Hawai'i, Pacific/Rim and resident-only categories, are accepting entries through Jan. 3. Call 536-4222 for flier and contest rules. Windward Community College and Starbucks Coffee are accepting entries for Star Poets 2005. Students in grades 3-12 may submit one or more poems, of 20 lines or less, for prizes to be awarded to students and their schools.
