REBECCA MURPHY, a veteran of more than 15 years in local government affairs, public relations and communications, has been named to the newly created position of government affairs/communications director for REALTORS Association of Maui Inc., the non-profit Realtors trade association for Maui and Lana'i. Murphy is a past consultant for the Maui Planning Department and served as special assistant to Mufi Hannemann when he was director of the state Department of Business, Economic Development and Tourism. Murphy also is author of several Hawaiian history books.
Star Markets has named DAVE DOTY vice president of administration and chief financial officer for the chain of 10 supermarkets on O'ahu, Maui and Kaua'i. Doty, who joined the company in 2000 as controller, also served in executive positions in California. Also, PHYLLIS MASUDA, former executive secretary to the chairman, chief executive officer and president, was named to corporate secretary.
SEAN MCLAUGHLIN, chief executive officer and president of Akaku: Maui Community TV, has been elected the first-ever Hawai'i resident member of the board of directors for the Washington, D.C.-based National Association of Telecommunications Officers and Advisors. The national trade association represents the telecommunications needs and interests of local governments, and those who advise local governments. McLaughlin is former Honolulu City Council director of telecommunications, adviser to state and city administrations, and an award-winning producer and director. He recently was named Maui's Outstanding Non-Profit Executive for 2004.
ALYSON BORGERDING has joined public relations and strategic communications firm Joan Bennet and Associates Inc. as an account director, assigned to high-profile accounts, including Oceanic Institute and the Hawai'i State Teachers Association. Before joining Joan Bennet, Borgerding worked for public relations firm Communications Pacific, with clients in the travel, retail, healthcare and real estate industries. Previously, she was travel editor of the Columbus (Ohio) Dispatch newspaper, and before that, editor in chief of Ohio Magazine. Also joining Joan Bennet as assistant account executive will be recent college graduate and former DDB Needham intern ERIN SMITH.
