Healthcare worker honored
Josie Rejante has been named recipient of the State Award for Excellence in practice from the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners.
The award acknowledges a nurse practitioner for contributions to healthcare and for support of the nurse practitioner role. Rejante was recognized for developing a program to improve the working relationship between The Queen's Medical Center and community nursing homes.
The Hawai'i chapter of the American Society of Interior Design has presented three Design Excellence awards to interior designers of Architects Hawaii Ltd.
Karen Muraoka won a Healthcare Award of Excellence for her work on the Queen's Medical Center Emergency Services Department. Muraoka also won a Healthcare Award of Honor for her work on the Kuakini Medical Center Ambulatory Care Services facility.
Interior designer Lisa-Marie Priester won a Retail Award of Merit for her work on Boise Furniture Solutions.
Paul Deering, a professor of education at the University of Hawai'i, has been elected to a three-year term representing the west region on the board of trustees of the National Middle School Association.
Deering directs the Master of Education Degree in Curriculum Studies with a Middle Level Emphasis Program at the university.
He is a past president of the Hawai'i Association of Middle Schools.
Thomas Hirano, a longtime member of the Japanese Chamber of Commerce & Industry of Hawai'i, was recently presented with the Japanese Foreign Minister's Commendation by Masatoshi Muto, consul general of Japan.
Hirano was honored for his many years of service to the community and to international relations. He is president of Stationers Corp. of Hawai'i.
