Brigham Young-Hawai'i men's water polo player Vanja Kalabic was named NCAA Division II Player of the Year by the American Water Polo Coaches Association.
Kalabic also was named to the NCAA II All-America first team and was one of only two Division II players honored in the All-Division awards as an honorable mention All-American. Teammate Vlada Stankovic joined Kalabic on the NCAA II All-America first team.
Kalabic, a senior from Belgrade, Serbia and Montenegro, concluded his BYUH career as a four-time first-team All-American. He led the Seasiders in scoring for the fourth straight year with 59 goals, giving him an even 300 for his career.
Earlier this year, Kalabic earned first-team All-Western Water Polo Association honors for the third consecutive year and was also an Academic All-American last season. He is the all-time leader in career goals and steals for BYUH.
Stankovic, also from Belgrade, completed his sophomore season this year by scoring 32 goals, second only to Kalabic on the team. Stankovic also stood out defensively for the Seasiders who compiled a 16-4 record and rose to as high as No. 13 in the national rankings in just the fourth year of the program.
