Mainlanders boost Hawai'i tourism

Continued growth in Mainland tourists helped boost visitor arrivals to the state in November.

A total of 526,661 visitors came to Hawai'i last month, a 5 percent increase over November 2003. Mainland visitor arrivals totaled 365,495, up 7.6 percent over the previous year and setting a new November record. Domestic arrivals have set new monthly records nearly every month this year.

But international arrivals dropped slightly by 0.4 percent to 161,166 in November. Japanese visitor arrivals declined 0.8 percent.

Visitor spending grew 2.7 percent to $795.4 million last month, and total visitor days were up 4 percent over last year.

Visitor arrivals for the year through November reached 6.29 million, an 8.5 percent increase over the same period last year. Visitor expenditures so far this year totaled $9.3 billion, up 5.6 percent.
