Kaua'i utility workers ratify

LIHU'E, Kaua'i — Electrical workers at the Kaua'i Island Utility Co-op, the island's electric company, yesterday ratified a five-year contract.

Local 1260 of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers represents 81 employees at the utility. The employees had been working without a contract since Dec. 4. The new pact runs from Dec. 5, 2004, to Dec. 4, 2009. Details were not available.

Insurance firm names president

Island Insurance Company announced the appointment of John F. Schapperle as president effective Jan. 1. Schapperle is currently the executive vice president of Island Insurance. Schapperle will replace Linda Gilchrist, who is retiring at the end of the year but will continue to serve on the board of directors.
