ISLAND LIFE SHORTS
Don't miss high-octane production of 'Stomp!'

Advertiser Staff and News Services

"Stomp!" is playing at the Hawai'i Theatre, featuring percussive performers and unusual, industrial props.

Junichi Takahashi

Remember that Brothers Johnson disco-era hit "Stomp?" Well, neither do we, being too young and all for the clubs in 1979. But we do remember the last time "Stomp!' — the percussive everything-but-the-trash-can-on-the corner-of-Bishop-and-King-Streets live show — was here. And we liked it. With a busy New Year's weekend ahead, tonight's as good as any to bring on the noise. Shows go down at 5 and 9 tonight at Hawai'i Theatre; tickets range from $25 to $50. More performances Friday, Saturday and Sunday. More information: 528-0506.

Catwoman gets her own series of novels

"Catwoman" is here. No, not the Warner Bros. movie, which played in theaters over the summer, but the book. "Catwoman," by Elizabeth Hand, is a speed-readable paperback by a member of the screenwriting team for the movie, first in a series of novels based on DC Comics' "Batwoman" and "Catwoman" franchises, produced in partnership with Del Rey, a division of Random House that specializes in fantasy and sci-fi. Three original "Batman" are planned in 2005 and 2006 amid the hoopla over the 2005 movie "Batman Begins," starring Christian Bale.

FINAL WORD

Topher Grace, in Entertainment Weekly on his role in "In Good Company":

"I got to pretend I was married to Selma Blair and make out with Scarlett Johansson. How's that for endgame?"
