Swedish tot who survived wave reunited with father

PHUKET, Thailand — A Swedish toddler was reunited with his father yesterday, days after being found alone in the aftermath of the deadly tsunami that swept Asia.

Two-year-old Hannes Bergstroem — found alone and unidentified after the disaster — visits his hospitalized father, Marko Karkkainen.

Hannes Bergstroem was found on the Thai resort island of Phuket after the waves subsided Sunday and taken to a hospital for treatment.

His photo was posted on the Internet Monday.

The 2-year-old's uncle saw the photo and claimed the boy Tuesday.

Yesterday, the child was reunited with his father, Marko Karkkainen, at a Phuket hospital, where both father and son were receiving treatment.

Hannes, his face scratched and pocked with mosquito bites, looked puzzled as his father choked up with emotion.

Despite seeing one another again, their day was tinged with sadness and anxiety: Suzanne Bergstroem, the boy's mother, is still among some 5,000 people missing in Thailand.
