One killed in Farrington Highway crash

An early morning accident today on Farrington Highway in Nanakuli killed one person and injured two other people, one of them critically, paramedics and police said.

Details were sketchy this morning.

The accident occurred about 2 a.m. on the highway near Ayong Homestead Road, not far from Tesoro and Sack N Save, police said. Farrington Highway was closed during the morning rush hour in both directions until 8:30 a.m. Drivers were diverted to Mohihi Street.

The critically injured and seriously injured victims were taken by ambulance to The Queen's Medical Center, Emergency Medical Services officials said.

Three pickup trucks were involved, said Honolulu Fire Department spokesman Capt. Kenison Tejada. He said firefighters had to pry open one of the trucks to get a victim out. All the victims were men, he said.

This is the 70th traffic fatality on O'ahu so far this year.
