Latif Bolat

Start the new year right by attending the University of Hawai'i-Manoa East-West Center's fund-raiser for victims of last weekend's tsunamis. A program of dance and music will be presented on campus at the Imin Center from 2 to 5 p.m. on Sunday. Performers will include Turkish singer Latif Bolat, Kenny Endo Taiko Ensemble, Balinese dancer Chandra Susilo and East-West Center students.

Don't have time to offer monetary support in person? Checks or money orders made out to the East-West Center Tsunami Relief Fund may be dropped off at the East-West Center information desk and all First Hawaiian Bank locations. Donations also may be mailed to 1601 East-West Road, Honolulu, HI 96848. Information: 944-7111.

Year's best boxed set has to be Nirvana's

We gave you the down low on the best music released in 2004. But if you've still got some post-Christmas cash left, consider picking up the best boxed CD set of the year, too — Nirvana's "With The Lights Out."

The 3-CD/1-DVD career-spanning set features 81 tracks (68 of them previously unreleased) by the now-legendary Seattle rockers.

Fan must-hears include a cover of Led Zeppelin's "Heartbreaker" recorded at Nirvana's first live show in 1987, and Kurt Cobain solo acoustic performances recorded shortly before his 1994 death.

The DVD features the 1991 live stage debut of "Smells Like Teen Spirit" and other never-before-seen band videos. Retail is $59.98.

FINAL WORD

Michael Moore | on his film "Fahrenheit 9/11," which became the biggest documentary ever.
