HPU topples UH-Hilo in hoops, 75-64

Aaron Abrams scored 27 points and grabbed six rebounds as Hawai'i Pacific beat Hawai'i-Hilo, 75-64, in a Pacific West Conference basketball game last night at Mid-Pacific Institute gym.

Hilo was led by Joe Travis, who scored 22 points and grabbed 13 rebounds.

HPU improved to 7-12 overall and 4-4 in the PacWest. Hilo fell to 11-7 and 3-5.


BASEBALL

• HPU rallies past Hilo: Hawai'i Pacific scored eight runs in the seventh inning to rally past Hawai'i-Hilo, 12-7, in a baseball game yesterday at Simmons' Field in Kailua, Kona.

The big inning, which included four hits and three errors, erased a 7-1 deficit and the Sea Warriors tacked on three more runs in the ninth to put the game away.

HPU's Kyle Stanley batted 2 for 6 with three RBIs, while Greg Benoit went 3 for 4 with two RBIs.

Josh Ervin pitched 2 1/3 scoreless inning of relief for the win.

HPU improved to 3-0, while Hilo dropped to 4-11.


MEETING

• QB Club: University of Hawai'i coaches Mike Wilton and Carmyn James, and UH men's basketball radio analyst Jeff Portnoy will be the featured speakers at today's weekly meeting of the Honolulu Quarterback Club.

Wilton and his Warriors men's volleyball team are 4-2 and ranked No. 4 this season.

James and the UH women's indoor track and field team began their second season at the Husky Invitational at Seattle on Saturday.

Portnoy works with Bobby Curran during UH games. The Rainbow Warriors are 15-4 this season.

The luncheon will begin at 11:30 a.m. at the Pagoda Restaurant, and the program at noon.
