Saints lineman going to Oregon St., not Colorado

Advertiser Staff

All-State defensive lineman Tavita Thompson of Saint Louis School has accepted a football scholarship from Oregon State, according to Skip Akina, the Crusaders' defensive line coach.

Thompson, who is 6 feet 6 and 285 pounds, was one of the state's top football prospects. He received offers from Hawai'i, Arizona, Utah and Colorado. He verbally committed to Colorado last month, but rescinded his pledge this past weekend. He will sign with Oregon State tomorrow, the first day NCAA Division I prospects may sign binding national letters of intent.

Thompson is projected to play on the offensive line in college.

He has a cumulative grade-point average of 3.5 and scored 1,100 on his SAT.

He also is a professional dancer with Tihati Productions. Last night, he performed for members of the Pro Bowl.

His cousin is former UH running back Afatia Thompson.
