Pacific's Zodrow reaps honor

University of the Pacific (Calif.) junior Brian Zodrow, a 2001 graduate of Saint Louis from Kane'ohe, was named the Sports Imports/ AVCA Division I-II Men's Volleyball National Player of the Week.
Zodrow, a 6-foot-3 opposite hitter, led the Tigers in a four-game upset of No. 5 UC Santa Barbara with 20 kills. He added a career-high 24 kills in a loss to Cal State Northridge.
For the weekend, Zodrow averaged 6.29 kills per game with a .423 hitting percentage.

San Diego State freshman Stella Karoly-Brinich (Radford '03 of Kapolei) was named the Mountain West Conference Women's Swimmer of the Week for Jan. 29, after setting five personal-best times, and winning three individual events in dual meets against Loyola Marymount and Pepperdine.

She won the 100-yard butterfly in 58.55 seconds, the 200 individual medley in 2:09.80 and the 400 individual medley in 4:36.42.
She was a part of first-place finishes in the 200 medley relay (1:51.79) and 400 medley relay (4:02:68).
Her second-place finish was in the 100 freestyle (53.99) and she took third place in the 200 butterfly (2:09.01).
Pacific (Ore.) freshman Eryn Tengan (Baldwin '03 of Wailuku) won two events in a 108-79 win over Mills (Oakland, Calif.) in a dual meet Saturday. The victory was the first of the season for the Boxers' reinstated program.
Tengan (Baldwin '03 of Wailuku) broke her own school record by one second to win the 100-yard backstroke in 1:06.88. She then won the next event, the 500-yard freestyle, by more than 40 seconds in 5:53.51.
Men's track and field
Cornell junior Ryan Schmidt (Ka'ahumanu Hou '00 of Wailuku) qualified for the Eastern College Athletic Conference/IC4A championships in the triple jump on Jan. 24.
He was named to the Tompkins Trust Co./Cornell Varsity Athlete of the Week honor roll for his performance.
He triple-jumped 47 feet, 8 1/2 inches, good for third place in the Cornell Challenge. He also long-jumped 24-5 for second and high-jumped 6-7 for third.
He won the long jump at the Harvard/Brown/Cornell meet Saturday with 22-10, and took third in the triple jump with 48-7 1/2.
Women's Wrestling
Former Pacific (Ore.) wrestler Jill Remiticado (Iolani '99 of 'Aiea), a four-time USGWA All-American, was passed over for the Ad Rutschman Award, presented annually to the top male and female small college athletes in Oregon.
Remiticado, who graduated in May 2003, was one of five finalists for the award, which was won by Concordia University goalkeeper Shelley Butcher.
Remiticado won the 121-pound freestyle national championship in 2000, 2001 and 2002, and finished third in the 114-pound division in 2003. She is the only Pacific athlete to win three national championships in any sport, and one of only two four-time All-Americans in the history of the Forest Grove, Ore., school.
Women's basketball
Pacific (Ore.) senior Katannya Kapeli (Kamehameha '00 of Kane'ohe) had 15 points and seven rebounds in a 75-55 win over Lewis & Clark on Jan. 27. She had a team-high eight assists in a 79-60 win over Willamette Friday.
Cal State Los Angeles junior point guard Monica Tokoro (Iolani '01 of 'Aiea) scored a team-high 24 points in an 81-72 win over UC Davis Saturday. She had 23 points and five assists in a 93-82 loss to Chico State Friday.
Men's tennis
UCLA junior Chris Lam (home-schooled from Kaimuki) teamed with Tobias Clemens at No. 2 doubles, defeating Parker Collins and Daniel Langre of USC, 8-1, Friday. Trojan freshman Jamil Al-Agba outlasted Lam, 6-1, 7-6 (4), at No. 2 singles.
Lam and Clemens teamed to defeat John Boetsch and Brett Twente of Clemson, 8-2, on Jan. 27. Lam defeated Clemson's Jarmaine Jenkins, 6-2, 6-1 in singles.
Women's Tennis
Loyola Marymount freshman Kimi Kaloi (Kamehameha '03 of Wahiawa) and teammate Carla Arguelles lost to UCLA's Jakie Carleton and Lauren Fisher, 8-4, at No. 1 doubles last Wednesday.
Kaloi lost to Sarah Gregg, 6-1, 6-0, at No. 5 singles.
