BODYSURFING

• Stewart wins: Mike Stewart of Kailua, Kona, continued his dominance in bodysurfing by winning the Pipeline Bodysurfing Classic for a record 10th time yesterday.

Stewart, who is more recognized for his prowess as a professional bodyboarder, has won four consecutive Pipeline Bodysurfing Classic titles.

Honolulu lifeguard Mark Cunningham placed second. It was the fourth time he has finished runner-up to Stewart.

Among the other finalists, Steve Kapela placed third, followed by James Duca, Chris Moore and Rogerio Schefler.

The one-day competition was completed in 3- to 5-foot waves at the Banzai Pipeline. It is considered one of the most prestigious bodysurfing contests in the world.
