Port security plans submitted

Hawai'i vessels and port facilities had a 99 percent compliance rate with a new Coast Guard requirement to develop security plans, officials said yesterday.
"We're really pleased with how many people got their plans in on time," said Petty Officer Erica Ryan of the Coast Guard in Honolulu.
Nationwide, about 90 percent of vessels and port facilities turned in security plans required by the Maritime Transportation Security Act.
Facilities that did not meet the Jan. 1 requirement will face penalties of up to $10,000, the Coast Guard said.
Names of specific vessels and facilities that did not meet the deadline were not released, officials said.
