UH defeats San Jose State, 56-55

The University of Hawai'i men’s basketball team held on for a 56-55 victory over San Jose State tonight.

A crowd of 7,002 at the Stan Sheriff Center watched the Rainbow Warriors maintain first place in the WAC at 16-4 overall and 8-2 in the conference. The Spartans dropped to 5-15 and 0-10 with their 11th consecutive loss.

Michael Kuebler led Hawai'i with 14 points. Julian Sensley added 13 points and five rebounds, and Haim Shimonovich had 11 points and nine rebounds.

The ’Bows maintained the lead throughout the game, although they could never run away from the methodical Spartans. The Hawai'i lead ranged from three to eight for most of the second half.#

San Jose State closed to 54-53 with 7.6 seconds remaining on a putback by Marquin Chandler.

Logan Lee responded with two free throws with 5.7 seconds remaining to clinch the win for Hawai'i. San Jose State’s Demetrius Brown scored on a putback with 0.2 seconds remaining for the final margin.
