Cruise ship worker missing

A crew member of a cruise ship was reported missing yesterday after it put in at Fanning Island at the end of a voyage from Hawai'i.

A Coast Guard C-130 search-and-rescue aircraft from Kalaeloa searched for the man about 90 miles north of Fanning. That was where the Crystal Harmony would have been shortly after the man was last seen about 1 a.m. yesterday.

Fanning Island is about 1,200 miles southwest of Hawai'i.

Sewage spill cancels regattas

Health officials yesterday were still monitoring the effects of a sewage spill in Ke'ehi Lagoon.

About 2,000 gallons of sewage spewed Friday evening from a manhole on Richard Lane and into Kalihi Stream, contaminating Ke'ehi Lagoon, officials said.

The spill led to the cancellation Saturday of two youth canoe-paddling regattas.

About 2,000 paddlers entered Saturday's regattas for the Na Opio Canoe Racing Association and the O'ahu Interscholastic Association.

Joan Malama of the O'ahu Canoe Racing Association said warning signs were posted at the waterfront, and officials didn't want to put the paddlers at risk.

The warning signs will remain up until test results of water samples are received.
