By Wayne Harada

TALK ABOUT PEOPLE: Kumu hula Leina'ala Kalama Heine has heard the rumors herself — that she has died.

"At one time, I was hanging on a thread — but I'm getting better now," she said.

Indeed, routine surgery for the hula dancer resulted in complications last year and she was hospitalized for weeks. She has undergone physical therapy and has had ample time to sort out her life's priorities. "I lost 75 pounds in the process," she said. "Not the best way to lose weight."

As for getting back on stage with The Brothers Cazimero and her Na Pualei O Likolehua halau, she's not rushing it. "You might tell the people that it'll probably be May Day when I get back to dancing," she said. ...

NAMES 'N' PLACES: Comedian Frank DeLima, who performs at the Palace Showroom of the Ohana Reef Towers Hotel, turned auctioneer for Goodwill in a fund-raiser at the Hilton Hawaiian Village. Among the items: lunch for three with Advertiser columnist Lee Cataluna, with whom he had been at odds for years. "I thought it's time to forgive and forget," he said, trying to put the past behind him and do a good deed for charity. "I started the bidding at $1 and it went for more than $350," said DeLima, who felt a lot better for his effort. He's been all over the tube lately in The Cab commercial as well as one for Kamaaina Metals. The latter is an oldie for which he no longer gets paid. "It's from w-a-y back, before I knew better," he said. Watch for him at the Festa on March 27 at McCoy Pavilion, Ala Moana Beach Park. ...
