THE LEFT LANE
Who's your Idol? Tell our website

Advertiser Staff and News Services

Why should Simon, Randy and Paula have all the fun when it comes to judging Fox TV's "American Idol"?

Hawai'i has three contestants in the final 32 — Camile Velasco, an 18-year-old waitress from Maui; Jasmine Trias, a 17-year-old student from Maryknoll; and Jonah Moananu, a 22-year-old part-time teacher.

None competed in last night's opening round of cuts, but you can voice your opinion on the competitors who want to be the next American Idol.

Support your local favorites and sound off on the judges and competition itself. Go to The Advertiser's Idol Chitchat, to find out what other fans think about the show and to ask fellow fans questions.

Velasco is slated to perform in the Feb. 17 airing, followed by Moananu on Feb. 24 and and Trias Mar. 2.

Do-it-yourselfer's love improvement

Couples who have been together for a while know that date night sometimes turns into a trip to the home-improvement store.

Home Depot says those little excursions can lead to romance, if you use a little elbow grease first to install that hand-held shower massage or spa jacuzzi or build that new headboard.

Leave it to Home Depot to say that installing a dimmer switch can bring romance to light. For a demonstration with a local Home Depot expert on how to install a dimmer in time for Valentine's Day, call Molly Sheehan at 523-8802, ext. 22.

Are you a rad dad? Get yourself a poster

Dads come in all shapes and sizes. But great dads share the same traits — including communication. So say the folks at the University of Hawai'i Center on the Family.

The center has released a brochure/poster, "Dad Wanted: All Hours, Great Benefits," that includes the characteristics of a great dad and a checklist for fathers. Call 956-4132 or 841-2245.

Rub-a-dub love with a touch of satin

What's the best way to seduce a woman? Turns out 54 percent of women (and 36 percent of men) think it's a massage.

Do satin sheets turn you on? Las Vegas residents say so. They ranked highest when asked if they were aroused by the sight of satin sheets.

Can't we just have a fling now and then? Surprise, surprise: 45 percent of married people with children said the biggest downside of a committed relationship is that you can't sleep with other people you're attracted to.

Those are a few of the findings released for Valentine's Day by San Francisco interpersonal media company Tickle Inc. (formerly Emode) from a survey of more than 970,000 Americans. Find out about your sexual personality with a test at web.tickle.com.
