Pedestrian dies crossing freeway

Advertiser Staff

A 30-year-old 'Aiea man died after being struck by a pickup truck last night while jaywalking across Moanalua Freeway near Kaiser’s Moanalua Medical Center, police said. The truck’s driver, a 48-year-old Waipahu man, was arrested for driving under the influence of an intoxicant, police said.

Last night’s fatality was the third pedestrian death in as many days between Moanalua and Pearlridge. Seven pedestrians have been killed on O'ahu’s roadways this year.

Steven Tanaka, 52, and Blaine Nakamura, 39, died at Queen’s Medical Center after being struck while jaywalking across Kamehameha Highway in Pearlridge and 'Aiea on Tuesday and Wednesday nights, respectively.

Police vehicular homicide investigators said last night’s accident was reported at 9:38 p.m.
