'Cosi fan tutte' engages in operatic antics

Mozart's "Cosi Fan Tutte," the second opera in the Hawaii Opera Theatre season, takes the Blaisdell Concert Hall stage beginning tonight.

The story: It's a battle-of-the-sexes tale in Naples in the late 1700s, as two bachelors prepare to marry two sisters. However, the men's cynical friend, Don Alfonso, bets that their prospective wives would not remain faithful for even a night. The two accept the bet, pretend to go off to war, and return as playboys to woo the sisters.

The details: 8 p.m. today, 4 p.m. Sunday, 7:30 p.m. Tuesday. Lectures are offered at one hour and at one half-hour before each performance.
