The Buzz

From Los Angeles, sounds of Ellee Ven

Los Angelino Jessica Kunin gave up the life of a school teacher for evenings as indie club singer Ellee Ven. She calls her style of music "groove tonics" — a blend of rock, rap and soul set to club-friendly downtempo drum-n-bass. Catch her shows at Wave Waikiki Wednesday (18 and older) and Thursday (21 and older). Cover is $10; doors open at 9 p.m. Hip-hop emcee Intrepid and freestyle hip-hop crew EyeSoulAted Mindz open; special guest is Omni of Gershwin BLX. 941-0424.

Immerse yourself in music and hula

Celebrate the 19th year of Hawaiian-language immersion education on O'ahu at "Ho'omau 2004," the annual benefit concert. Gates open at 3 p.m. at the Waikiki Shell Sunday, followed by keiki performances at 4:30 p.m.; professional performers hit the stage at 6 p.m. Keiki from O'ahu's 10 immersion schools will perform Hawaiian mele and hula, followed by entertainment by Na Palapalai, Kilinahe, Tony Conjugacion, Three Plus (left), Lopaka Kanaka'ole and Keahiwai.

Tickets are $18 reserved, $15 general, $8 children ages 5-8 and keiki 4 and younger are free. All proceeds benefit O'ahu's Hawaiian-language immersion schools. 638-7700.

A young trio in concert

Let Enchantée enchant you when the classical trio performs in a free concert on Valentine's night. The recital features 16-year-old Dayna Furusawa on cello, 15-year-old Laura Jean Keller on violin and 16-year-old Tiffany Hyun on piano. As a trio, the group will perform works by Brahms and Beethoven. The evening's program also includes solo works by Lalo, Ysaye, Scriabin, Schumann and Kroll. A violin and cello duo by Kodaly is featured as well. The concert begins at 7:30 p.m. Saturday in the University of Hawai'i-Manoa's Orvis Auditorium. 753-8044.

World jazz fusion downtown

Local ensemble Sand, Water, Moon will be featured in a concert from 8 to 10 tonight at the art loft Soullenz Gallery, at 186 N. King St. Enjoy the sounds of world jazz fusion as offered by band members Michael Tanenbaum, above, on guitar, Randy Wheeler on saxophone and Gene Tamashiro on percussion. Cover is $5. 525-7757.

Three for the show at Fil-Am Extravaganza

The Fil-Am Extravaganza, 9-11 tonight at the Hawaiian Hut, showcases Fil-Am stars who have shone in the music industry. One Voice, a female quartet from San Francisco, will be in town promoting its debut album, "Luvin' You." Jordan Segundo, left, who made it to the top 32 in last year's "American Idol" search and is expected to release his first CD next month, also is on the bill. And local trio Omni will release its first CD this year under Tom Moffatt Productions. Al Waterson hosts the event.

Tickets are $15 presale and $20 at the door. 548-0335.
