UH-Hilo's Mason in second

University of Hawai'i-Hilo junior Nick Mason shot a 4-under 68 in the second round of the Taylor Made/Waikoloa Intercollegiate Golf Tournament at Waikoloa King's Course yesterday to pull into a three-way tie for second place.
UC-Davis' Scott Gordon shot a 6-under 66 to card a two-day 136 (8 under) and take a 2-stroke lead over Mason (70-68), Oklahoma's Anthony Kim (71-67) and Arizona State's Chez Reavie (71-67).
Georgia Tech is the team leader at 563. The Yellow Jackets were followed by UCLA and UC-Davis (565), Washington (566), Arkansas and Arizona State (571), USC (574), Stanford (578), Pepperdine, Texas Christian and Nagoya (579), UH-Hilo and Oklahoma (580), Texas Tech (581), Nevada-Reno (582), Oregon (583), Rhode Island (587), Tulsa (589), Oregon State (595), and UH-Manoa and Houston (604).
BASKETBALL
Chrisman leads BYUH: Jake Chrisman scored a career-high 42 points and grabbed 12 rebounds to lead Brigham Young University-Hawai'i to a 93-82 victory over Montana State-Billings yesterday in a Pacific West Conference men's basketball game at Billings, Mont. Chrisman was 17 of 26 from the field, including 2 for 2 from 3-point range.
BYUH shot 64 percent from the field (37 of 58) and outrebounded the Yellowjackets 45-25.
BYUH will play at Western New Mexico tomorrow.
Michael Stowell added 19 points for BYUH, which improved to 8-2 in league and 18-4 overall.
Montana State-Billings fell to 5-5 and 14-7.
HPU wins: Audrius Peciukas led four Hawai'i Pacific players in double figures with 18 points as the Sea Warriors stopped Western New Mexico's four-game winning streak, 71-60, yesterday at Silver City, N.M. Albert Tecul scored 17 points and Marvin Noble and Aaron Abrams each added 14 as the Sea Warriors improved to 5-5 in Pacific West Conference play and 8-14 overall. WNMU fell to 4-6 and 7-13.
SOFTBALL
UH-Hilo sweeps: The University of Hawai'i-Hilo completed a four-game sweep of Montana State University-Billings yesterday to open the Pacific West Conference with a 4-0 record and improve its overall record to 6-3.
The Vulcans, playing at home, won the first game 4-3 and took the second 3-0 behind pitcher Tara Martinez's three-hitter.
UH-Hilo's Laura Kimborowicz hit a two-out bases loaded single in the bottom of the ninth to score Zoie Sevilla in the first game.
JUDO
Pak wins gold at San Jose: At last weekend's San Jose (Calif.) Buddhist Invitational, 'Aiea's Scott Pak of Shobukan Judo Club, captured first in the 66-kilogram weight class. Pak, currently ranked seventh nationally in his weight, is making a run for the Olympics. He needs to be fifth or better in the points race to qualify for the U.S. Olympic Trials in San Jose, Calif.
ARENA2FOOTBALL
Islanders get Akiona: Randyn Akiona, a 1997 graduate of Saint Louis School, has been acquired by the Hawaiian Islanders from the Macon Knights. Akiona, a 6-foot, 190-pound wide receiver/defensive back, caught 22 passes for 159 yards last season. On defense he recorded 15 solo tackles, 12 assisted tackles and two fumble returns for touchdowns.
The Islanders open their season on March 27 at Central Valley. Their home opener is April 17 against Bossier-Shreveport.
