UH's Shimonovich won't make trip to Boise

Advertiser Staff

Haim Shimonovich, the starting center for the University of Hawai'i men's basketball team, will not travel with the team to Boise, Idaho, tomorrow because of an injured right knee.

Shimonovich said he injured his knee late in the second half of yesterday's 62-59 victory over Southern Methodist.

"I knew something was wrong," he said. "But I didn't want to ask for a sub. I wanted to finish the game."

He finished the game by blocking two potential game-tying shots by SMU in the closing seconds.

Hawai'i head coach Riley Wallace said Shimonovich will not play in Wednesday's Western Athletic Conference game at Boise State. However, he is hoping Shimonovich will be able to join the team for either Saturday's game at Southern Illinois or next Monday's game at Texas-El Paso.

Shimonovich is scheduled to undergo a MRI exam tomorrow or Tuesday to determine the extent of the injury.
