SOFTBALL

• UH edges DePaul: Denise Dahlberg hit a double to left field to drive in April Crowell and cap a three-run eighth inning, leading Hawai'i to an 8-7 victory over DePaul on the final day of the UNLV Softball Classic at Las Vegas.

Hawai'i (5-6) finished 2-3 in the tournament. DePaul is 1-4.

DePaul broke a 5-all tie with two runs in the top of the eighth. In the bottom of the inning, Justina Kahaku was placed at second using the international tie-breaker rule. After Tracie Uchima grounded out to third, Noelle Izumi hit a bunt single. Izumi continued to second and Kahaku scored when the second baseman muffed the throw. Crowell then doubled to center field to score Izumi. Tyleen Tausaga grounded out to the pitcher before Dahlberg got her game-winning hit.

UH's Melissa Coogan (3-3) pitched a complete game, allowing 11 hits, striking out five and walking two.

• Hilo, Chaminade sweep: Laura Kimborowicz hit a three-run homer in the first inning and Natalie Fujimoto added a two-run shot in the third inning to lift Hawai'i-Hilo to a 7-3 victory over Concordia and a sweep of a doubleheader at UHH field yesterday.

UH-Hilo (8-3) won the first game, 7-3.

Chaminade opened its Pacific West Conference season with a doubleheader sweep of Montana State-Billings at Palolo Field on Saturday. The scores were 6-4 and 4-3.

Yesterday, the Silverswords took another doubleheader from the Yellowjackets, 1-0 and 4-2.
