Tonight's Must-See

"American Idol," 7 p.m., Fox. Last week, the semifinals had a blistering start. Most of the eight young singers offered powerful voices. Viewers sent Fantasia Barrino, 19, and Diana DeGarmo, 16, to the finals. Tonight, eight more get their chance, including 18-year-old Camile Velasco from Haiku, Maui. Viewers will then send two more into the final 12.

"Nova: Crash of Flight 111," 8 p.m., PBS. For about four years, experts looked into how a plane hit the water near Nova Scotia so fiercely that all 229 people died. They emerged with a long list of recommendations, including a big one: Remove a type of insulation that turns planes into what one critic calls "flying fire traps." The story is told in this terrific documentary, which blends human emotion with research precision.
