Petition online for Ha'iku Stairs

Nearly 100 people have responded to an online petition drive by the Friends of Haiku Stairs, which is seeking reasonable public use and the preservation of Ha'iku Stairs in Kane'ohe. The petition urges the city to bring interested parties together to preserve public access with respect for neighboring communities.

Residents in the surrounding communities have called for removal of the stairs because of trespassers' inconsiderate behavior. The city is negotiating with the state to acquire land near the bottom of the stairs. For more information or to sign the petition e-mail johnf@hawaii.edu.
