Waikele crash victim identified

A 20-year-old Waipahu man who died Saturday after crashing a motorcycle on Lumiaina Street near his Leihaku Street residence in Waikele was identified today by the medical examiner’s office as Christian Ignacio.

Police said Ignacio lost control of a 1995 Kawasaki motorcycle he was test-driving at a curve on the roadway and slid into a parked sports utility vehicle at 5:54 p.m. He died at St. Francis Medical Center-West at 7:35 p.m.

Ignacio is O'ahu's 16th traffic fatality of 2004.


Man stabbed at rec center

Police are investigating the stabbing of a 22-year-old man last night at the Kalakaua Recreation Center in Kalihi.

The stabbing was reported at about 9:30 p.m. but friends of the victim took him from the recreation center to the parking lot of an Iwilei retail store complex before officers arrived, police said. The victim then was taken to The Queen’s Medical Center with a critical stab wound to his stomach, according to police.

The hospital reported the stabbing to police at 11:30 p.m.

Details are sketchy but investigators have determined that the man was stabbed during a confrontation on the basketball court.


Explosive-device suspect charged

A Kailua man was charged Friday with possession of a prohibited explosive device.

Kenny K. Lukela, 25, was arraigned today at District Court and is being held in lieu of $25,000 bail.

Police arrested Lukela on Thursday at 11:19 p.m. in Chinatown fronting 126 N. Puahi St. on suspicion of disorderly conduct for allegedly swinging a knife.

While booking him at the Chinatown substation, police found a homemade explosive device in a bag Lukela allegedly was carrying.


Man accused of stealing tools

Police charged a 26-year-old Waikiki man Saturday in the theft of tools from the maintenance building at the Ala Wai Golf Course.

Brad Storck of 2037 Ala Wai Blvd. is charged with second-degree burglary. His bail is $11,000.

Police responded to an alarm alert Friday at 11:20 p.m. and said they saw Storck coming out of the maintenance building.
