• A human-based, nonelectrical, optical communications network that approximated the Internet in concept — but was in place more than 200 years ago and used during the Napoleonic Wars — will be the subject of a free brown-bag seminar Wednesday, sponsored by the University of Phoenix, Hawai'i campus. The speaker on the "State of the Internet in 1794" will be telecommunications and networking industry veteran Marty Borden.
