SIGHT 'EMS: With her Oscar-worthy performance as murderer Aileen Wuornos, actress Charlize Theron really turns in her career best work in "Monster." But did you catch a monstrous boost for the old Blackie's Bar on Maui? In early scenes, Theron is wearing a Blackie's T-shirt — and yep, it's vintage Blackie's that somebody somewhere must've acquired from the long-gone Lahaina watering hole. ...

And watching William C. Macy roll the dice in "The Cooler," we noticed a familiar face — Bill Thompson, the former deejay and entertainment manager — very prominent behind Macy in a couple of casino scenes. Was that really you, Bill? ...

Duane "Dog" Chapman, a Hawai'i-based bounty hunter, appears in the March Playboy magazine now on the stands. He and partner Beth Smith partied with Hugh Hefner at the fabled Hefner mansion, and his media blitz is only beginning — with Playboy sending him to Las Vegas this week for an appearance. Anyway, director Jim Hutchison permitted Horibe to rehearse and train two weeks prior to the competition, so he wouldn't have to play catch-up with the rest of the ACT cast. You may remember Horibe doing a star turn in the earlier "Gypsy" production here, singing and dancing. ...

SHORTS OF SORTS: Chuck Boller, executive director of the Louis Vuitton Hawai'i International Film Festival, is back from two filmfests, the Fajr International Film festival in Iran and the Berlin International Film Festival in Germany. The underlying mission was to make connections with nations abroad and compare notes with our fall film festival. Meantime, dates for HIFF's Spring Film Festival are set — April 2-8 at the Signature Dole Cannery Theatres. ...

Remember, Jonah Moananu appears tonight on "American Idol" (7 to 8 p.m., KHON-2), so vote. ...
