Chefs' fund-raiser aids ASSETS School

Here's to great food for a great cause: Nine chefs will join forces to share their culinary art at "A Passage to Paradise: Holomua i ke Kai," a fund-raiser 6 to 10 p.m. March 5 at Ko'olau Golf Club.

Chefs including DK Kodama of Sansei Seafood Restaurant and Sushi Bar, Mariano Lalika of Meritage and Russell Siu of 3660 on the Rise will lend their talents.

Money raised will benefit ASSETS School, which provides educational services for dyslexic students, gifted and dyslexic students, and students who are gifted and have other learning differences.

Writer tries Keoki's fish, finds Paradise

Kaua'i-based restaurant Keoki's Paradise received national exposure by landing on the pages of Good Housekeeping magazine's January issue, the result of a travel writer's visit to the Poi'pu eatery.

The article focused mainly on the restaurant's Orange-Ginger-Glazed Fish, including the recipe and a quote from chef Frank Sweeney, who devised the dish.


'Kona Coffee Story' percolates at gallery

The history of one of the world's best cups of Joe comes to life in "The Kona Coffee Story: Along the Hawai'i Belt Road," through April 24 at the Japanese Cultural Center of Hawai'i community gallery.

The free exhibit includes the arrival of the first coffee beans in 1828 and the poignant stories of Japanese coffee pioneers on the Big Island.

"The Kona Coffee Story" was organized by the Japanese American National Museum and the Kona Japanese Civic Association. For more information, call 945-7633.
