Tips being sought in hit-and-run accident

Police are seeking information about a hit-and-run in which a bicyclist was critically injured Monday night on Hale'iwa Road near Kaiaka Street.

The 48-year-old bicyclist was taken to The Queen's Medical Center, police said. He was found on the roadway at about 9:30 p.m. The driver fled the scene. Call 529-3499.


Probe continues in Chinatown fire

Investigators still were trying to determine the cause of a fire Saturday at 32 N. Hotel St. in Chinatown that gutted a building housing the Risque Book Store and Esquire Theater. The fire began in a janitor's maintenance room. Damage was estimated at $325,000.


Suspect arrested in Lihu'e robbery

LIHU'E, Kaua'i — Police have arrested Robert J.H. Gouveia, 24, of Wailua in connection with last week's robbery of the Lihu'e 7-Eleven store.

Gouveia, charged with first-degree robbery, was being held on $20,000 bail.

A clerk told police that a man claiming to have a knife took money from the store's cash register at 3:40 a.m. on Feb. 16.
