$1 milion gift given to YWCA home
The YWCA of O'ahu was presented with a $1 million grant yesterday from the Harry and Jeanette Weinberg Foundation for the ongoing renovation of the Fernhurst Residence for Women in Transition in Makiki.
The drug- and alcohol-free housing program serves about 600 women and children a year and has been operating for more than 90 years. The facility, built in 1952, is undergoing a $2.5 million renovation that is expected to be completed in July.
"Fernhurst is our flagship program helping women and children gain the support and stability needed to regain their independence," said YWCA president and CEO Cheryl Ka'uhane Lupenui. "We are extremely fortunate to have the support of the Weinberg Foundation."
IDs required at Federal Building
The Social Security Administration reminds residents that the Prince Kuhio Federal Building requires anyone entering to show a government-issued photo identification.
"We want to make sure our customers are aware of this, so they will be able to enter the building to conduct Social Security matters," said Irene Kishita, Social Security's Pacific area manager.
Acceptable identification includes state driver's licenses, state ID cards and passports, but not bus passes.

Signs to replace lookout patrols
A police proposal to post warning signs at popular lookouts was endorsed Tuesday night by the Hawai'i Kai Neighborhood Board.
Police have said they lack staffing to continue patrolling the lookouts, but want to warn visitors not to leave valuables in their cars because of possible break-ins.
Once the signs are up, officers will be stationed at the lookouts only when staffing allows, said Lt. Abner De Lima.
