Hawai'i's men, women share swimming lead

In remarkably similar fashion, the University of Hawai'i men's and women's swimming and diving teams shared the lead after the opening day of their respective conference championships.
The Rainbow Warriors amassed 74 points to tie Southern Methodist at the National Independent Conference Championships at Oakland, Mich.
Meanwhile, the Rainbow Wahine also scored 74 points and also shared the lead with SMU at the Western Athletic Conference Swimming and Diving Championships at San Antonio.
The UH 800-yard freestyle relay team of Peter Thew, Cheyne Bloch, Andrew Affleck and Kurt Boehm won in 6 minutes, 25.95 seconds an NCAA automatic qualifying effort that also shattered the school, NIC and OU Aquatic Center records.
Hawai'i finished second in the 200-yard medley relay in 1:29.02, missing a school record by .50 of a second.
The Rainbow Wahine team YingJuan Zhen, Katie Clewett, Nicole Mackey and Dena Quick won the 200-yard medley relay in 1:41.51.
UH finished second in the 800-yard freestyle in 7:20.63.
