UH's Martin out for tonight's game

Advertiser Staff

Phil Martin, a senior forward for the University of Hawai'i men's basketball team, will miss his first game in four seasons tonight because of a sprained left ankle.

Martin will not be in uniform tonight when the Rainbow Warriors host Tulsa in a Western Athletic Conference game at the Stan Sheriff Center.

Martin injured his ankle during practice yesterday. He was walking around today with a temporary cast on his ankle.

Junior Jeff Blackett will start in place of Martin tonight.

Martin's streak of 95 consecutive starts will come to an end because of the injury. If he had played tonight, he also would have tied the UH record for games played in a career. He has appeared in 119 games in four seasons. The record is 120 held by Phil Lott.

Martin is listed as doubtful for Sunday's home finale against Rice.
