LEEWARD

Kapolei schools receive grant

Six public schools in the Kapolei complex will share $100,000 donated by the Estate of James Campbell for the purchase of computers.

Kapolei High School, Kapolei Middle School, Kapolei Elementary School and Mauka Lani Elementary School will each receive $20,000, while Makakilo and Barbers Point Elementary schools will receive $10,000 apiece.

"Computers are the doors through which students can explore a boundless world of knowledge," said Steve MacMillan, chief executive officer of Campbell Estate.



HONOLULU

Urban center plan on agenda

A public information meeting at 7 p.m. tomorrow at the Susannah Wesley Community Center will discuss the city's primary urban center plan covering the area from Kahala to Pearl City.

The meeting place is at 1117 Ka'ili St. in Kalihi.

The city Department of Planning and Permitting will present a summary of the plan, which is intended to provide a general planning framework for the region, detailed neighborhood planning and a guide to public investment and land-use decisions for the next 25 years. The final draft of the document is being reviewed by the City Council. For more information, call 523-4484.



WINDWARD

Spring concert season to begin

Chamber Music Hawaii launches a spring concert season with "From Russia With Love" by the Honolulu Brass at 7:30 p.m. March 8 at Paliku Theatre at Windward Community College.

The series continues at the same time and place April 5 with the Galliard String Quartet and May 3 with a combination of musical instruments. Tickets, at the door or in advance, are $20 with discounts for seniors and military and free admission for students K-12 and from Windward Community College, Hawai'i Pacific University and Brigham Young University-Hawaii. BIG ISLAND

UH-Hilo expands China tours

HILO, Hawai'i — The University of Hawai'i at Hilo says its annual summer Peking University and Chinese Culture Study Tour, now in its 15th year, has become so popular that two trips will be conducted this year.

The first tour is tentatively set for May 20 to June 14 and will focus on ethnic, scenic and historical China. The second tour is tentatively set for July 8 to Aug. 3 and will focus on Mongolia, Islamic and historical China.

The cost of the first tour is estimated at $3,580; the second tour will cost a little less. March 10 is the deadline to submit a deposit for the first tour.
