Lindsey Maynard scored Rice's final four points, including two free throws with 22 seconds remaining, to lift the Lady Owls to a 58-56 victory over Hawai'i in a Western Athletic Conference women's basketball game last night in Autry Court at Houston.

The Rainbow Wahine had the ball for the final 22 seconds, but Lauren Neaves blocked two shots to secure the victory.

The Lady Owls (18-7, 15-1 WAC) rallied from a nine-point deficit in the final 9:14 to earn their 12th consecutive win. The Rainbow Wahine are 7-18, 5-11 in the WAC.

Hawai'i led 49-40 after Pam Tambini's layup. But Rice went on a 10-2 run in the next 3ý minutes to close 51-50 after a Michelle Woods layup with 5:47 to go.

Hawai'i scored its last field goal, a jump shot by Tambini, with 3:01 remaining to give the Rainbow Wahine a 55-52 lead, but Elisa Inman's shot from just inside the three-point line closed the lead to one at the 2:41 mark.

Hawai'i's Brittany Grice made one of two free throw attempts with 1:11 left, but Maynard's layup with 59 seconds left tied the game at 56.

Tambini fouled Maynard with 22 seconds left, and Maynard made both free throws.

Rice plays at Louisiana Tech for the WAC regular-season title. The two teams are tied atop the conference standings after the Lady Techsters' 80-48 win at Southern Methodist yesterday.

Grice led the Rainbow Wahine with 15 points, followed by Jade Abele with 10.
