Wilton said the captains serve as a liaison between the coaches and the players.
"The job has very significant leadership opportunities," Wilton said. "It's a growth opportunity."
Tuyay, of San Diego, and Muise, of Nova Scotia, were starters last season but now are playing behind freshman setter Brian Beckwith and sophomore libero Alfred Reft, respectively.
Beckwith and Reft are expected to start in tomorrow's match against the Warrior alumni. If both players retain their starting jobs entering the season opener next Thursday, Wilton will appoint a game captain from among the seven starters while keeping Tuyay and Muise as team captains.
After three days of practice, the setter and libero positions remain as the most contested. Beckwith, who is 6 feet 6, is ahead of Tuyay and Daniel Rasay. Tuyay missed most of fall training camp because of a severely sprained ankle.
Reft is competing against Muise and Eric Kalima. Only one libero will suit up for regular-season matches.
Reft, who transferred from UC Santa Barbara, has made use of his experience as a high school setter.
"The libero ends up setting the ball a lot whenever the setter digs the ball," Wilton said. "(Reft) puts up a nice set to hit."
Reft said that being a former setter "gives you a better understanding of what's going on with the offense. It definitely helps you."
Tomorrow's event begins at 5 p.m. with a match between alumni teams. The Warriors and an alumni team will play beginning at 7.
