How Hawai'i hotels are faring

Statewide occupancy increased by 5.2 percent to 78.6 percent over the Christmas week, according to Hospitality Advisors LLC. However, the average daily rate declined by 4.9 percent to $186.46. Maui's hotel occupancy remained relatively flat compared with last year at 81.3 percent. But Maui had the highest average room rate at $265.93. O'ahu's occupancy gained to 78.4 percent with an average daily rate of $136.18. Kaua'i saw an increase to 77 percent while the Big Island's occupancy also improved, by 3.6 percent to 73.9 percent.
