Voigt, a soprano, is widely celebrated as her generation's pre-eminent interpreter of dramatic roles in works by Richard Wagner, Richard Strauss, Guiseppe Verdi and others. Among her accolades: a 23-minute standing ovation for her performance in Wagner's "Tristan und Isolde," May 25, 2003, at the Vienna State Opera.
Her career accelerated more than 10 years ago after her performance in Boston in the title role of Strauss' "Ariadne auf Naxos"; since then, she has performed in the world's leading opera houses and symphony halls.
In March 2002, she was decorated with the "Chevalier de l'Ordre des Arts et des Lettres," France's top literary and artistic award. She was also named Musical America's 2003 Vocalist of the Year.
