The Honolulu Symphony kicks off the new year with an extraordinary pair of concerts featuring an extraordinary voice: Deborah Voigt, the opera superstar who has won worldwide acclaim, performs with the orchestra in the continuing Halekulani MasterWorks season.

Voigt, a soprano, is widely celebrated as her generation's pre-eminent interpreter of dramatic roles in works by Richard Wagner, Richard Strauss, Guiseppe Verdi and others. Among her accolades: a 23-minute standing ovation for her performance in Wagner's "Tristan und Isolde," May 25, 2003, at the Vienna State Opera.

Her career accelerated more than 10 years ago after her performance in Boston in the title role of Strauss' "Ariadne auf Naxos"; since then, she has performed in the world's leading opera houses and symphony halls.
