'Ohana announces families'
landmark events births, engagements, weddings and major celebrations.
- Current and former Hawai'i residents and Hawai'i-stationed military personnel are eligible.
- If you or someone in your family gave birth, got married, celebrated a landmark such as a yakudoshi or 25th anniversary, we'd like to hear about it.
- How to get listed: For births, weddings, engagements and major family celebrations, simply fill out a form and send it in with the requested verification. The Advertiser will not give out or publish street addresses or phone numbers; we ask for these for verification only.
The small print
Before you get started, here are a few important things to know:
- For birth announcements: You must attach a photocopy of your baby's official state-issued birth certificate; we cannot print the announcement without it. Only parents named on the birth certificate can be mentioned; each must sign the form.
- For engagement and wedding announcements: Engagements may be announced up to six months before the wedding; you must submit a receipt for the reservations of your wedding site and a letter from your officiant. For weddings, you must send a photocopy of your official state-issued certificate of marriage. We cannot print announcements without these documents.
- For celebrations: We'll publish celebrations such as a first birthday, 100th birthday, yakudoshi, bar or bat mitzvah, 25th and 50th anniversary and anniversaries every 10 years after that, and other major landmarks. Forms must be signed by the honoree or honoree's parent. For all listings, feel free to attach additional pages and/or a copy of the invitation or announcement. And at least one person in the couple must be a current or former Hawai'i resident or Hawai'i-stationed military member. Be sure to write or print legibly, and to spell out all names as you want them to appear in the newspaper.
Sending photos
We print pictures of babies and married couples. These photos are optional.
- Please label clearly with name(s) of those pictured and the name of the person or studio who should get credit for taking the picture.
- The image must be a photograph or slide that is in sharp focus. It must feature only the honored person(s) or must be easily cropped to show only the person(s). It may be in color or black and white.
- We're sorry, but no photographs or other materials can be returned. So be sure to send us only copies that you can spare. We also cannot accept digital photos on a disc; and all must be printed on photographic paper.
- The Advertiser reserves the right to decline to publish announcements and photos.
The Family Album

Amateur photos only, but we can receive digital images, sent to ohana@honoluluadvertiser.com (make sure they're at least 300 dpi). Photos will not be returned. All submissions may be published or distributed in print, electronic or other forms.
