Search on for missing hiker

Fire rescue crews searched late into the night yesterday for a woman who was reported missing along the Manana trail above Pacific Palisades in Pearl City.

The woman, in her 20s, went for a hike with family and friends on the trail, said Honolulu Fire Department Capt. Emmit Kane. The group hiked to a waterfall and pond but, Kane said, the woman somehow became separated from the others.

She was last seen around 7:15 p.m. near the pond. The Fire Department was notified at about 7:45 and began a search on the ground as well as from the air.

Kane said the search was expected to continue late last night and resume this morning if needed. He did not know if she had any warm clothes or provisions.

Hit-and-run victim identified

A 40-year-old Kailua man who died at The Queen's Medical Center after being struck by a car Friday was identified yesterday by the medical examiner's office as Julio Duque.

Duque was getting out of his pickup truck at 5:15 p.m., in the 98-500 block of Ka'amilo Street in 'Aiea, when a car struck the truck from the rear. The car then hit Duque.

The driver of the car, which may have been a Mazda, fled. Anyone with information can call police at 529-3499.
