All-state shortstop out with knee injury

Advertiser Staff

Mililani senior Charity Senas, the shortstop on last year's Advertiser All-State softball first team, could miss the rest of the regular season with a torn posterior cruciate ligament in her knee.

Senas was injured sliding into home plate in the first inning of the Trojans' season-opening victory over Nanakuli on Dec. 17. Mililani coach Mike Okimoto said Senas was told at that time to rest for four weeks and then begin two weeks of rehabilitation before returning to the field, although he said last night that she could be back in two or three weeks.

The regular season ends Jan. 28.

Senas batted .565 during the 2003 OIA season, with five home runs and 23 RBIs. Okimoto said she has made a verbal commitment to play for the University of Hawai'i at Hilo next season.

Waialua forfeits season

Waialua will not field a softball team this season because of a lack of players, O'ahu Interscholastic Association softball coordinator Elden Esmerelda said.

Waipahu also forfeited three games for the same reason, but the Marauders expect to play their remaining games.
